Following the resurgence of criminal activities along the Emohua-Kalabari road and the identification of flashpoints and getaways used by the criminals terrorizing the road after a joint operation conducted on the road on Monday through the collaborative efforts of the chairmen of Emohua, Degema, Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru local government areas of Rivers State (EDAA Collaboration), in line with their commitment to finding lasting solution to the security challenges witnessed along the road in synergy with relevant security agencies, the council chairmen on Tuesday hit the ground running with the clearing of the shoulders of the road , to enhance the visibility and accessibility of the road for effective policing and crime fighting.
The clearing of the shoulders of Emohua-Kalabari road is an immediate intervention put together by the council chairmen in line with the recommendation of the security agencies, as part of the action plan for the eradication of the menace of kidnapping and armed robbery in the area.
The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd and his colleagues from the three Kalabari speaking LGAs; Hon Micheal John Williams (Degema), Hon Onengiyeofori George (Asari-Toru) and Hon Rowland Sekibo (Akuku-Toru) were on ground to supervise the intervention work and encourage security personnel already stationed at strategic locations along the road, in order to further give confidence to citizens and road users in the area.
The presence of the council chairmen and the heavily armed security personnel and local vigilante groups along the road attracted commendations from commuters and residents of the area, including farmers who had earlier abandoned their farms for fear of being harmed by the criminals terrorizing the area.
The clearing of both sides of the Emohua-Kalabari road from the Emohua-Ogbakiri-Kalabari road interception is expected to be extended to the first bridge bounding Emohua and Asari-Toru LGAs.
