Emohua local government chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd on Tuesday attended a one day workshop on oil theft and pipeline vandalism organised by Prof. Ben Naanen; a professor of economic history and development studies in the university of PortHarcourt held in Alakahia, Obio-Akpor LGA, Rivers State.
The council chairman who was a special guest at the event shared his thoughts on illegal artisanal petroleum refining and oil bunkering activities in Nigeria, with a case study of Emohua local government area in particular and Rivers State at large.
The workshop with the theme; “combating upstream oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Nigerian using international best practices” which had in attendance the vice chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill also featured video and power point presentation, discussion and communique on the causes, economic and environmental consequences of illegal petroleum refining and oil bunkering activities, as well as possible solutions to the menace.
Dr. Lloyd commended media houses, particularly the Nigeria Info 92.3 FM Port Harcourt for championing the enlightenment campaign against illegal artisanal petroleum refining and oil bunkering activities in Rivers State, while calling on stakeholders and other corporate organizations to support the fight against the illegal petroleum refining which has been identified as the major cause of soot pandemic and environmental degradation.
The Emolga council Boss lauded the organizer of the workshop, Prof. Ben Naanen for his selfless contribution to the fight against illegal artisanal petroleum refining and oil bunkering activities through seminars and other public enlightenment programs.
