— As Emolga PDP Sensitization Team Visits Rumuji, Ovogo Communities
The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Lloyd has expressed optimism that the people of Odegu clan in Emohua LGA will not hesitate to vote massively for candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State in the forthcoming general election as they have always done in previous elections in the area, describing Odegu communities as strongholds of PDP with a long history of victory for the party.
Dr Lloyd made the assertion when he led the Emohua LGA campaign train of the PDP to ward 13 (Odegu I) comprising Rumuji and Ovogo communities, in continuation of the ward-to-ward sensitization and mobilization of voters ahead of the 2023 general election.
“Odegu is a PDP stronghold where we are expecting massive votes for our governorship candidate, Sir Siminalayi Fubara; our Senatorial candidate, Chief Allwell Onyesoh; our house of representatives candidate, Hon Boniface Emerengwa and our state assembly candidate, Hon Justina Emeji.
“We’re sure of victory here because you have a long history of victory for the PDP. We shall return here for a victory party after the election.”
The Emohua council Boss who is also the 2023 campaign director of the PDP in Emohua LGA added that the leadership of the party in the LGA will ensure that the attention of the state government is brought to the untarred section of Ovogo community road in Odegu for consideration immediately after the election.
Chairman of PDP in Emolga ward 13 (Rumuji and Ovogo), Barr Ovodowhuo Geoffrey-Eke who took time to enumerate the dividends of good governance attracted to Odegu communities by the leadership of the PDP in Emohua LGA which includes road construction and political recognition by both the state and local government, said the forthcoming general election would avail the people of the area the opportunity to appreciate the PDP with their voters’ cards.
“For us, the forthcoming election is an opportunity to appreciate the love the PDP has shown to the Odegu people.
“This is the party that gave Odegu roads in Eveku, Rumuodogo 1 and 2, this party also gave us the vice chairman of Emohua LGA, and you also gave us the party chairman and a brand new commissioner for environment.
“Odegu will appreciate you on February 25 and March 11 elections. Go back home and rest, this election is as good as concluded.”
In her brief remark, the vice chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon Mrs Edna Nyeche said; “We’re not here for a campaign rally but a victory rally.
“The women you’re seeing here and those that are not here have all secured their PVCs for this election and will vote for the party that gave them the opportunity to produce the vice chairman of Emohua LGA.
“My leaders, be assured that we shall win convincingly because we have reasons to do better than we did in previous elections.”
Chairman of PDP in Emohua LGA, Hon Uche Minikwu who appreciated the PDP-led state and local government for the visible presence of democratic dividends in Odegu, reassured that the polling units across the two wards in Odegu (Ward 13 &14) were already secured for candidates of the party in the general election.
“Odegu only had a commissioner in the civil service commission decades ago but we now have a commissioner in the state executive council overseeing the state ministry of Environment, PDP made it possible.
“Mgbuoshimini is a community in Rumuji and we know that Governor Wike’s administration did a road from the Mgbuoshimini-Odegu section of the East-West road to Ibaa-Obelle, down to Isiokpo in Ikwerre LGA. Is that not a benefit to Odegu?
“Today we have the vice chairman of Emohua LGA from Rumuji community in Odegu, the PDP chairman also from Rumuji in Odegu, we have produced caretaker committee chairman of the council and we know that many more will come when we win.
“We’re happy for the love shown us and we shall reciprocate the same at the elections.”
Leader of PDP in Odegu and former caretaker committee chairman of Emohua LGA, Chief Godspower Nwoka who expressed gratitude to the leadership of the PDP for granting Odegu the opportunity to produce a caretaker chairman of the LGA amid other benefits, said the people were formidable and prepared for the election to deliver PDP candidates.
Introducing the house of representatives candidate for the Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency seat, Hon Boniface Emerengwa and other candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming general election, the leader of the PDP caucus in Emohua LGA, Eze Paul Wonodi noted that Odegu is one of the strongholds of the PDP that never failed the party in previous elections.
He urged the people to identify the umbrella in the ballot papers for the Governorship, National and State Assembly elections to cast their votes for candidates of PDP in Rivers State, emphasizing that directive for the choice of Rivers people for the presidential ballot paper would be communicated to the people through their leaders in the ward.
In his own remark, the honourable commissioner of Rivers State Ministry of Environment, Barr Emenike Geoffrey-Eke who is also one of the leaders of the PDP in Odegu clan restated the people’s preparedness for the victory of PDP candidates across the polling units in the two wards in Odegu (Ward 13 and 14).
“Odegu is ready for the election and victory is assured for PDP. We’re only here to take stock and not to campaign because PDP doesn’t need to campaign here.
“Ovogo in particular is grateful to PDP for what the party has done for them amid other expectations from the government, that’s why we will win convincingly so that we can ask for more from the next administration to consolidate our benefits from the present administration.
“I will be commissioner for just seven months and that’s not enough for us to achieve our plans for our people but if we deliver very well, Sir Siminalayi Fubara can reappoint me to serve in the state executive council, that’s why we must deliver one hundred per cent.”
According to the member representing the Emohua constituency in the state assembly, Hon Sam Ogeh; the PDP is convincingly loved in Ovogo-Odegu, hence the party is sure of victory in the area in the general elections.
“We are convinced that Ovogo is happy and comfortable with the PDP. We’re also convinced by what we’re seeing here that PDP will win in all the polling units here.
“You can see the benefit of the support you have given us in previous elections. Today your own son is a commissioner because you have always supported us.
“So, your support for us this time will not also be in vain” He concluded.
The Emohua LGA PDP campaign train which had two different stops during the visit to ward 13 (Odegu I) had on arrival in each of the communities (Rumuji and Ovogo) paid homage to the traditional institution in the communities to seek the blessings and support of the paramount rulers, chiefs and elders of the communities before proceeding to the venue of the sensitization rally.
The intensified ward-to-ward sensitization and mobilization of voters in Rumuji and Ovogo communities also attracted political leaders and members of the PDP leadership caucus across Emohua LGA including erstwhile chairmen of the LGA and former commissioners from the LGA.
