Sequel to the invitation of Emohua local government chairman, stakeholders across the local government area were at the council headquarters on Friday to work out modalities for the distribution of food palliatives received from the federal government through the government of Rivers State.
The food palliatives already in the custody of Emohua local government are part government’s effort to alleviate the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, as a result of the implementation of the federal government’s fuel subsidy removal policy.
While addressing the stakeholders, the chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Lloyd said the food palliatives were not provided for any political party, religion or tribe, emphasizing that its distribution must not be given any political colouration.
To this end, Dr Lloyd appointed a 12-man committee with members drawn from the inter-party advisory committee (IPAC), traditional rulers, community development committees (CDC), religious groups, civil society groups and other relevant agencies, including the Nigerian police and the civil defence corps, as well as local government officials.
The committee headed by the council chairman’s executive assistant on documentation and strategy, Engr. Victor Benjamin is mandated to facilitate the equitable distribution of food palliatives.
Dr. Lloyd directed the committee to distribute the seven hundred bags of rice received from the state government equally among the fourteen wards in the local government area, leaving each ward with fifty bags.
He further directed that the fifty bags of rice due to every ward be further distributed equally on a community basis, and the number of bags due to each community be subsequently delivered to the traditional rulers of the various communities, declaring that the local government council was going to bear the cost of transportation to the different communities.
He also charged community leaders to ensure that non-indigenous residents and people living with disabilities in their respective communities are carried along in the distribution progress.
The food palliatives already stored in the recently completed Emohua local government council store (warehouse) conceptualized by the administration of Dr Chidi Lloyd were also inspected by participants at the stakeholders’ meeting.
The stakeholders meeting was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community leaders, including the vice chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon Mrs Edna Nyeche Addis; leader of Emohua legislative assembly, Hon Love Nyenke and erstwhile chairmen of the LGA, Eze Paul Wokhe Wonodi (PDP Caucus Leader) and Barr Emmanuel Wonodi, as well as the LGA chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Uche Minikwu and representatives of other political leaders under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee.
