Ahead of the 2023 flash flood predicted by the National Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Emohua local government on Thursday played host to environmental health officers from the Rivers State Ministry of Environment who was on a 1-day visit to the area, to ascertain the local government’s preparedness towards mitigating the impact of the imminent flood on residents of the area.
The officials were received at the Emohua local government council secretariat by members of the local government emergency management committee led by Hon Peter Wogbo, who conducted them around the facilities in the local government area.
The team inspected the Emohua local government primary healthcare center (cottage hospital) and the council store (warehouse) conceived and built by the administration of Dr. Chidi Lloyd, before proceeding to the proposed camps for flood victims and other internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Emohua local government area.
Chairman of Emohua local government emergency management committee, Hon. Peter Wogbo said the administration of Dr. Chidi Lloyd had proactively put necessary measures in place to cushion the effect of the natural disaster on residents of the area including awareness campaigns, desilting of drainages and clearing of waterways,.as well as the provision of temporary accommodation for victims of flood disasters.
He noted that the construction of the local government warehouse conceptualized by the administration of Dr. Chidi Lloyd was speedily executed in line with the council chairman’s directive, in preparation for the storage of relief materials and food palliatives to be distributed to flood victims, to cushion the effect of the natural disaster on residents of the area.
