I WON’T BE CONSTRUCTING FIVE ROADS, IF I HAD WANTED TO ENRICH MYSELF— CHIDI LLOYD

Chidi Lloyd Is The Pride Of Emohua LGA; He Has Changed The Narrative About Our Local government area, Says Prof. Chituru Orluwene

As the 2-week harvest of projects organized by Emohua local government enters day 3, the chairman of the local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, has again stated that he took advantage of the opportunity offered to him by the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the LGA to change the narrative about the area and not to enrich himself.

He said the achievements of his administration are products of strategic planning, stressing that the cost of running government was drastically reduced and capital expenditure practically increased under his administration to embark on the array of infrastructure projects undertaken across the LGA.

Dr. Lloyd, who was speaking at the commissioning of Emohua local government primary healthcare cold chain built and equipped by his administration on Wednesday, said his administration was building strong institutions and laying the foundation for future administrations in the local government area.

According to Dr. Lloyd, “I’m a man in a hurry to change things for the better and in the course of doing so, I may have stepped on toes, but it wasn’t intentional.”

The infrastructure revolution witnessed across the Emohua LGA under his watch is, according to the council chairman, the result of those difficult decisions taken by his administration for the overall development of the LGA.

“I didn’t come to become Emohua council chairman to enrich myself; if I had wanted to enrich myself, I wouldn’t be constructing five roads and other critical infrastructure within and outside the council headquarters.

“You also know that I wasn’t a poor man when I came into office, nor was I rich, but I was already a senior law lecturer at the University of Nigeria when this call came.

“I didn’t also come here to become popular because I was already popular before I became chairman, but I only needed to put things in proper perspective.

“ I’m happy that we’re making an impact, but I’ve not become any richer than I was since I came into office “.

He recalled that upon assumption of office in June 2021, the local government’s primary healthcare centre was in a shadow of itself and the entire council had no public convenience, but a new narrative emerged within one year of his administration, with Emohua LGA currently parading the best local government primary healthcare centre in Rivers State.

The council chairman explained that the cold chain facility is expected to preserve vaccines and other temperature-sensitive drugs for the primary healthcare authority, for the good of the people of the area.

In his remarks as the special guest, the provost of Rivers State University’s Medical College, Prof. Chituru Orluwene, commended Dr. Lloyd for positively impacting the lives of the people of the area.

Prof. Orluwene, who referred to Dr. Lloyd as the Pride of Emohua LGA, noted that the infrastructure revolution witnessed across the LGA was a new standard in local government administration, stressing that Dr. Lloyd had redefined governance at the third-tier government level in Nigeria.

“My chairman, even your most ardent critic could not help but agree that you came prepared for governance and you have turned Emohua LGA into a project site.

“You have redefined governance at the third tier of government, and I’m so proud that you’re doing this.

Prof. Orluwene, who performed the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of Emohua LGA primary healthcare centre built and equipped by the administration of Dr. Lloyd within one year, while noting the achievements of Dr. Chidi Lloyd in healthcare, stated that the importance of a functional cold chain facility to the local government primary healthcare centre cannot be overemphasized.

He also attributed the successes recorded at the two separate medical outreachs conducted in the Emohua LGA primary healthcare centre to the facilities in the healthcare centre, stressing that the number of surgeries carried out during the outreach couldn’t have been possible without the required medical facilities.

He further encouraged Dr. Lloyd to ignore the few misguided youths trying to distract his focus, stressing that the majority and enlightened people of Emohua LGA appreciate the new narrative his administration has brought to the LGA.

He noted that those who rate the performance of public office holders by the amount of money they throw to the people are always the first to deny the same public office holders at the expiration of their tenure, emphasizing that the best legacy to leave is the implementation of projects and policies that directly benefit the generality of the people and not to give money to individuals or groups.

Prof. Orluwene noted that the legacies of Dr. Chidi Lloyd will always keep him in the minds of the people long after he leaves office because his projects are people-oriented.

“With what you have done, it will be difficult for our people to forget you easily.

“If human beings forget to call your name, these structures you have put in place will scream your name and shout to the ears of everyone.

“You’re doing the right thing, and you’re on the right path, that’s why posterity will judge you rightly. Just continue “.

Prof. Orluwene, who is also an ordained preacher, prayed for God’s benevolence upon Dr. Lloyd, his family, and members of his cabinet for changing the narrative about Emohua LGA within the council chairman’s first term in office.

The highlight of the event was the official handover of the cold chain facility to the Medical Director of Emohua LGA Primary Healthcare Authority, Dr. Deborah Emelaye.

The event was attended by top government functionaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and staff of the primary healthcare authority of the local government.
